Children under the tree

A Baby’s parents have a crucial role in not only ensuring that the child’s physical needs are met but also in providing stimulation for their developing senses.

The movements, smiles and ‘coos’ babies make when handled by their parents are clear responses to an enjoyable interaction. Babies show intense interest in the human face, so spend time talking, and smiling with your infant right from birth. You will be amazed at what they have to say, so take the time to stop, look and listen.

Newborns limb movements are initially uncontrolled and influenced by inborn reflexes. As the child grows they are more able to engage in purposeful play, such as reaching for a toy, taking an interest in their hands.

When placed on their tummy, an infant will develop the ability to hold their head up steadily, reach out for objects placed within their grasp and roll front to back and back to front to view the world from different aspects.

Remember play is the business of childhood. Children don’t need expensive toys, to learn how to play, they just need you.
